Purpose of the Job

InsingerGilissen is the Dutch branch of Quintet Private Bank (Europe) S.A. Compared to others, Quintet Group is small (<1,700 employees across 50 European and UK locations) with an ambition to stay true to our purpose to be the most trusted fiduciary of family wealth. We offer a challenging and interesting role as mid to senior level general banking lawyer with experience in an in-house financial services team or a top tier law firm with previous experience in topics relevant to the private banking and financial intermediaries’ business. This is an excellent opportunity to join the small InsingerGilissen local legal team in Amsterdam, within the Group Legal Function. The role involves the provision of legal advice, including regulatory advice on general private banking external investment firms and investment fund topics and is part of the Group Legal Function based in Luxembourg. The coverage includes taking on Group wide responsibility for legal issues relating to the financial intermediaries’ business and investment fund topics (the latter in close collaboration with a dedicated other inhouse lawyer based in Luxembourg). The lawyer will closely collaborate with legal team colleagues in the head office in Luxembourg and across Europe and the UK to provide a combined view of legal advice and support on projects relevant for the Group. There will also be the opportunity to work on Group projects across the Group. 

Key Accountabilities

  • Provide state-of-the-art legal advice on a broad range of topics within private banking, investment fund solutions and financial intermediary services. This includes legal advice with respect to financial intermediary services on Group level, as well as the provision of support with respect to investment fund solutions under Luxembourg law (in collaboration with another inhouse lawyer of the team based in Luxembourg).
  • Draft, negotiate and review agreements relating to the above-mentioned areas, as well as implement regulatory and legal changes into the relevant legal framework and harmonize the approach within the Quintet Group
  • Manage the legal aspects of regulatory or strategic projects.
  • Identify, manage and escalate legal risk as appropriate.
  • Instruct and actively manage external counsel where needed in a cost-efficient way and in line with the Group process for engaging external counsel.
  • Proactively engage with stakeholders to demonstrate value add of having a lawyer involved early with key matters concerning client management.
  • Manage own workload in line with the defined priorities
  • Work within the Group Legal Team collaborating with colleagues in the head office in Luxembourg and across Europe and the UK on common topics, adopting a common approach where possible.

Knowledge and Experience

  • At least 5 years of experience as Dutch qualified lawyer (ideally admitted to the Dutch bar) with financial services experience in the Netherlands (preferably with lending, financial intermediaries and investment fund law expertise) gained inhouse or at a top tier law firm in the Netherlands
  • Deep knowledge of Dutch banking laws and regulations (including laws relating to deposit taking, investment services (including MiFID) and consumer lending)
  • Knowledge and experience of advising on DNB / AFM regulatory framework
  • Excellent technical drafting skills
  • Willingness to get into the Luxembourg legal framework with respect to financial intermediaries and investment fund solutions

  • Capable of dealing with a variety of topics simultaneously and of prioritizing matters against challenging deadlines
  • Effective verbal and written communication skills, and comfortable presenting solutions to stakeholders which are easily understood

Technical Skills

Qualified lawyer (ideally with bar admission), ideally with postgraduate qualification (e.g. L.L.M.), with relevant professional experience in law firms and/or in the financial sector industry of at least 5 years

Languages Skills

Fluent in Dutch and English (written and spoken).

Knowledge of French or German is an asset.

You will be required to work mostly in English, including drafting contractual documentation.
